Shawwood Estate was purchased in 1993 as a bare parcel of land to create a vinyard and winery. The property was named Shawwod Estate after the old family property in Coonable upon which Charles and his sister Alison grew up. This property name came from england where the family was orignaly (Charles's great great grandfather) from in the 1800's and is still there today.

The vinyard and winery was established by Charles and his brother-in-law Craig Bishop and the wine label Shawwood was born. Between 1993 and 2000 the grapes were planted and the original cottage was built, then came the Winery building and then the Cellar Door. The first wine was bottled in 2001. There were losts of family and friends involved in the early stages as financial partners and helping to pick, prune, make wine and work in the cellar door on their rostered weekend.

In 2004 Charles and Melissa Tym took their 3 girls around Australia in a caravan for 12 months and settled back in Mudgee (only for 1 year!) but we loved it so much living here we decided not to go back to Sydney but to settle permanently in Mudgee in 2005. Over the years partners were bought out and now its just Charles and Melissa who own and operate Shawwood Estate.

In 2007 the last wine was produced as it was increasingly difficult to make the winery profitable while working in IT full time. In 2005 Charles and Melissa started Harbour IT in Mudgee, then Harbour SAT then Harbour ISP. The cellar door was converted to office space for the growing NBN internet business. In 2020 Harbour ISP was sold to Unity and in 2021 the Cellar Door and Winery buildings became vacant.

In early 2022 we started renovating the buildings to create the Shawwood Luxury Farm Stay Accommodation. We completed the build in December 2023 and we are happy to say the guests who ave stayed so far have had great things to say and we feel a great sence of satisfaction that the property is still welcoming guests, not to taste our wine but to enjoy the beauty of our property, the views to town and the hills, the magnificent sunsets and the peace and tranquaility.
